Lightweight UHMWPE Webbing Sling

China Lifute Sling Group manufactures lightweight UHMWPE webbing slings for lifting    heavy loads where sling weight, bulk and edge damage are the limiting factors. The body is flat woven    from ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE / HMPE) yarn — the same fibre family sold    under the Dyneema® and Spectra® brand names — and finished with an eye loop at each end.    An equivalent UHMWPE sling weighs about 0.6 times a polyester sling, gives roughlytwice the tensile strength of polyester webbing of the same width, and resists cuts    and abrasion far better. Every UHMWPE lifting sling is woven, stitched and proof loaded in our own    factory in Taizhou, Jiangsu.

Why choose a UHMWPE webbing sling?

  • About 0.6x the weight of polyester. For the same working load limit a UHMWPE sling is      roughly 40% lighter, so one rigger can carry and position a sling that would otherwise need two —      which counts at height, in tanks and on scaffolding.

  • About 2x the tensile strength of polyester. The same capacity in a narrower, more      flexible sling — or a much higher working load limit in the same webbing width.

  • Better cut and abrasion resistance. The woven UHMWPE body stands up to sharp edges,      steel plate, scrap and rough concrete much better than polyester or nylon webbing.

  • Very low water absorption. UHMWPE does not take on water, does not stiffen and does      not rot. Its density is below 1.0, so a dropped sling floats.

  • Excellent chemical and UV resistance. It holds up in salt water, oils and most acids      and alkalis, indoors and outdoors, which is why it suits marine, port and offshore work.

  • Low elongation at working load. Less stored energy and less spring-back, so heavy and      awkward lifts stay under control.

  • Soft and conformable. The flat woven body moulds itself to the load, so it grips well      and leaves no hard spots or marring on finished and painted surfaces.

  • Thin and easy to stow. A narrow UHMWPE sling folds into a small package, which makes      it easier to inspect, store and carry to the lift point.

Construction and available types

  • Eye to eye flat webbing sling — an eye loop at each end, the standard construction for this UHMWPE sling.

  • Endless loop (circular) flat webbing sling — a continuous loop with no ends, for vertical, choker and basket hitches.

  • Single layer or double layer flat woven UHMWPE webbing, woven in house on our own looms.

  • Reinforced and heat sealed wear points; optional PU / TPU coating for extra abrasion protection.

  • Protective sleeves in leather, PU or UHMWPE for sharp edges and corner protection.

  • White webbing as standard; other colours and printed customer logos on request.

  • Soft, pliable and low bulk, so the sling folds small and is easy to stow, carry and inspect.

Markings and traceability

Every sling is printed or labelled with the information needed for safe use and for an audit, following    the marking requirements of EN 1492-1:

  • Working load limit in tonnes, and the effective length in metres.

  • Material — UHMWPE / HMPE.

  • Safety factor.

  • Standard complied with — EN 1492-1.

  • Manufacturer name, date of manufacture and a unique traceability number.

  • QR code or barcode traceability on request, linked to the test certificate.

Our sample sling carries the marking UHMWPE Webbing Sling / WLL 1.5 Ton / 2 M printed    directly on the webbing. The exact wording, layout and language of the marking can be produced to your    own specification.

Typical applications

  • Steel fabrication and steel plate handling — where cut resistance and low sling weight both matter.

  • Precast concrete and tunnel segments — strong, non marring and easy to place in tight shutters.

  • Wind energy — tower sections, nacelles and blades, including work at height where sling weight counts.

  • Shipyards, ports and offshore — wet, salty and abrasive environments where polyester ages faster.

  • Heavy machinery, dies and moulds — precise, low stretch lifts with little spring-back.

  • Rail and locomotive maintenance — lifting bogies, wheelsets and structural assemblies.

  • Glass, stone and finished surfaces — a soft woven body that will not scratch the load.

  • Power stations and plant maintenance — where a light sling can be carried to the lift point by hand.

Customisation and OEM service

We manufacture to your drawing as well as to our own standard range, and we have been producing OEM and    ODM lifting slings for overseas customers for decades.

  • Working load limit, webbing width, thickness and effective length made to your specification.

  • Eye to eye or endless loop construction; single or double layer webbing; reinforced or coated wear points.

Quality control and factory capability

China Lifute Sling Group has been manufacturing textile lifting and lashing equipment for46 years. All weaving, stitching, splicing, printing and testing are carried out inside    our own 10,000 m² factory in Taizhou, Jiangsu Province, so quality control stays in    our hands from raw yarn to the finished sling. We run more than 100 machines and a workforce of 86    production operators, with a daily output of over 7 tons of finished product.

UHMWPE webbing is checked for width and thickness, weave density, stitch pattern and marking content,    and every finished sling is proof loaded before packing. Minimum breaking load is verified on the test    bed and recorded against the sling’s traceability number, so the certificate that ships with the    sling can always be traced back to the batch and the test record. Our products are covered by ISO, CE,    DNV and PICC certification.

Frequently asked questions

What is a UHMWPE webbing sling?

It is a flat woven lifting sling made from ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE, also called    HMPE) yarn — the same fibre family sold under the Dyneema® and Spectra® brand names. We    weave it into flat webbing and finish it with an eye loop at each end, so the sling can be used in    vertical, choker and basket hitches.

How much lighter is it than a polyester sling?

About 0.6 times the weight, so roughly 40% lighter for the same working load limit. One operator can    carry and position a UHMWPE sling that would normally need two people, which makes a real difference at    height or in confined spaces.

How much stronger is UHMWPE than polyester?

Approximately twice the tensile strength for the same webbing width. That gives the same capacity in a    narrower and more flexible sling, or a much higher working load limit in the same width — which is    why a UHMWPE lifting sling can often replace a much wider and heavier polyester sling on the same job.

Is a UHMWPE webbing sling cut resistant?

Yes — noticeably better than polyester or nylon, which is why they are used on steel plate,    structural steel, scrap and precast concrete. For very sharp edges we can add a protective sleeve.

What working load limits and lengths can you supply?

Standard capacities from 1 t to 10 t, plus higher capacities, intermediate sizes and custom lengths and    widths to order. Our sample sling is marked WLL 1.5 ton × 2 m. Send us the working load limit,    effective length and hitch type and we will confirm the webbing width and the marking.

Does a UHMWPE sling float and does it absorb water?

UHMWPE has very low water absorption and a density below 1.0, so it does not take on water and it    floats. It does not stiffen, swell or rot when wet, which suits wet, marine and offshore work.

What temperature can it work at?

Normally about -40 °C to +80 °C. Keep it clear of hot surfaces, weld spatter and open flame, and    use a heat resistant aramid sling where high temperature cannot be avoided.

Care, inspection and safe use

  • Inspect the sling before every lift: look for cuts, abrasion, pulled or broken yarns, chemical damage, heat damage and a missing or illegible marking.

  • Protect the sling from sharp edges with a sleeve or corner protector, and never drag a load over the sling.

  • Do not exceed the working load limit, and remember that capacity falls in choker and multi-leg configurations.

  • Store clean and dry, out of direct sunlight, away from heat sources and chemicals.

  • Wash only with clean water and a mild detergent; never machine wash or tumble dry.

  • Retire the sling immediately if the marking label is missing, if the webbing is cut or badly abraded, or after an overload or shock load.

  • Keep a written inspection record — see our article on webbing sling WLL and mode factor for how capacity changes with hitch type.
